Morning: Final of GPC Southern Counties Young Singer of the Year Competition
(provisional title).
Promoted and administered by GPC with secretarial
and office assistance from GPO. All costs paid by GPC except basic
Civic Hall hire and piano hire (by GPO). GPC applying for
grant/sponsorship.
Evening: At 7.30pm, (Competition Finalists & Winners) Britten's "Saint Nicolas”
Cantata (50 min)(Plus ??). With Guildford Philharmonic Orchestra, Ash
Manor and Howard of Effingham School Choirs.
as a GPO Subscription Series Concert.
Concert funded by GPO/GBC

Hospices Annual Christmas Concert with the Band of the Parachute Regiment and a
school choir. With Guildford Philharmonic Choir and items conducted by Jeremy
Backhouse.
Promoted by Sheila Hurton (01932 860719) Princess Alice Hospice.
Provisional timetable: Police security search 1500-1600, (Choral Evensong
7600-7630), 1700-1900 Rehearsal, 2000-2050 Concert part |, 2050-2120 Interval,
2120-2200 Concert part Il.

Sunday December 21st 1997 at Guildford Civic Hall, 2.30pm (Note early time).
Christmas Carol Concert in aid of the Mayor of Guildford's Fund. Promoted and
performed by Guildford Philharmonic Choir with financial assistance (to be
confirmed) from Guildford Rotary and GBC. Jeremy Backhouse conducting.

Saturday March 7th 1998 at Guildford Civic Hall, 7.30pm.
Elgar's "Dream of Gerontius". (100 min). Promoted and performed by Guildford
Philharmonic Choir. Programme content and Orchestra to be confirmed. (D-o-G
requires Ms,T,B; Semi-C, Double Choir; also organ). Conductor to be confirmed.
Civic Hall provisionally booked by SJ (to be confirmed or cancelled by mid-June
97). (Cathedral and Dorking Halls NOT available). GPC applying for sponsorship.
Saturday May 2nd 1998 at Guildford Cathedral, 7.30pm.
Spring Concert. Mozart Requiem conducted by En Shao. Guildford Philharmonic
Orchestra & Choir.
Concert promoted and funded by GPO/GBC as a Subscription
Series Concert. (Plus Brahms' Academic Festival Overture & R Strauss' Four Last
Songs). (Cathedral booked by NG).
Sunday May 17th 1998 at the New Hall in Freiburq-im-Breisqau. Time tbc.
Joint Concert with Freiburger Bachchor, conducted by Jeremy Backhouse. Handel's
"Israel in Egypt", whether in English or German to be confirmed. Funding mainly
by GPC and participating members but possibly some grant help.
Saturday (or Sunday) June 27th (or 28th) 1998, time to be confirmed.
Open-Air Summer Concert at Pitland Street House, Holmbury St Mary. Conducted by
Jeremy Backhouse.
