It grieves me to say this,
as the GPO, over the
years has given me a great
deal of pleasure, but I now
feel if they are not prepared or allowed to give us
anything other than the
most popular of concerts,
it might be time for them
to move over, and give us a
chance to hear some visiting orchestras.

I look with envy at the
programmes Portsmouth
send me each year.
And what has happened

is, that as the society’s
former chairman, I am
expressing the views of its
members.

Philharmonic

was

acknowledged as being at
the leading edge of producing wonderfully varied
concerts.

From the forthcoming
season I have booked
only three of the 12 concerts, whereas before I
would have subscribed to
all of them.
I have no wish to hear
Messiah and the Tallis
Scholars for the third
year running and surely
three concerts by candlelight is over-egging the
pudding.

I know that many of
the Philharmonic’s former loyal supporters. feel
as I do.
