Dear Choir Member,

It hardly seems yesterday that I was writing last year’s beginning of season letter, but a year

has gone by and we are only two weeks away from our first rehearsal on Monday 6th

September. Following on from our great successes last season, we have put together a very
exciting programme which will require our usual high level of all round commitment to
ensure that all our concerts are both musical and financial successes .

I must draw your attention to The St Matthew Passion concert in March with our friends

from Freiburg, which will celebrate the Millennium and the 21St anniversary of the town

twinning. This concert will need a great effort from everyone in many ways, apart from
ensuring an excellent performance on the day. There will be all the usual entertaining of our

guests, with all that that entails. However in addition we have to fund what will be our most
expensive concert yet. Your committee has already been busy trying to obtain sponsorship,

our biggest success so far has been our submission to the BoroughMillennium Fund which

of £1,500. We will continue to seek for further sponsors so that we don’t
resulted in an award
have to draw on our reserves too much. I will keep you posted as time moves on.

In June for our Summer concert we are performing Walton’s Belshazzar’s Feast with the
Forest Orchestra. We were all very impressed by their brilliant performance at the Mahler
and a large number of you requesteda return visit, so that is what we have arranged.
As I always say at this time of year (and regularly throughout the year) please do your utmost
to publicise the choir and to attract new members, especially Tenors!

Don’t forget that if you have any ideas or want any matters raised at committee meetings
please put them in the suggestion box or pass them in writing to the Secretary, Stephen
Jepson.

I enclose as usual with this letter the Philharmonic brochure which I am sure will be of
interest to you if you have not already seen it.
With all good wishes for our best season yet
