Dear
Congratulations! You have been selected to take part in the final of Guildford Philharmonic
Choir’s Young Singer of the Year 1997, which will be held at the Civic Hall, Guildford, on
Saturday 8 November 1997. The music you will have to learn is attached to this letter.
Please arrive at the Civic Hall by 9.30am, where you will be met by a choir member. You
will then meet Jeremy Backhouse, the Chorus Director of Guildford Philharmonic Choir, and
the other two judges, one of whom will be accompanying you on the piano. The girl finalists
will be heard first, starting at 10.15. Cold drinks and biscuits will be provided at 11.00
before the boy finalists perform. The results of the competition will be announced at the end
of the morning session, at about 12.30.
The winners and runners-up will be required for the afternoon rehearsal between 3.004.00pm, and should be at the Civic Hall for the performance by 7pm, ready for the
performance which starts at 7.30. Dress requirements for the concert are smart dresses for
the girls and trousers, shirt and tie for the boys.

Nicolas, for your family and friends.
