Thursday 25th April
10.00 Coaches leave from Guildford Park Road car park. This is easily walkable from
the station. If you are leaving your car there, it’s £6 per visit Monday to Friday and £2
on a Saturday, free on Sunday. Payable by cash or RingGo.
Mid-afternoon – arrive in Liverpool, near Lime Street Station.
Evening – free.
Friday 26th April
Morning – free.
2.30 – Assemble at Tung Auditorium.
3.00 – rehearsal with soloist and pianist
4.30 – break (or a little earlier)
5.00 – top and tail rehearsal with band
5.30 – rehearsal finishes
6.00 – Ellington concert at the Tung (concert dress: long black skirt or trousers &
coloured tops).
7.00 – 7.30 Quick break – please bring your own food if you want to eat.
7.30-9.30 – Joint piano rehearsal at the Tung for all 4 choirs.
Saturday 27th April
Morning – free.
3.00 – arrive at Liverpool Anglican Cathedral. Entry by the side door (via intercom),
head straight to the function room areas in the Sir Giles Scott Suite (lower ground
floor).
3.15 – congregate in main cathedral space.
3.45-5.45 – Rehearsal with orchestra.
6.00 – Tea and coffee available in the Scott Gilbert Suite. Please bring your own food if
you want to eat before the concert.
7.30 – Verdi concert begins (dress code ladies – black long-sleeved top, black trousers,
black socks & shoes or long skirt and black tights; men – black DJ, white shirt, black
bow tie, black trousers, black socks & shoes).
9.15 – estimated finish time.
Sunday 28th April
10.00 – coaches leave from Liverpool Lime Street – exact place tbc once we are in
Liverpool.
Venues
Tung Auditorium, Yoko Ono Lennon Centre, 60 Oxford Street, L7 3NY.
As you are walking up Oxford Street, you don’t see the building until you’re nearly
there. You will pass signs to Melville Grove, Brett Building, Sydney Jones Library,
Garstang Museum etc but just keep going, and the building is on your right at the end.
There is a café bar there which will be open before the concert but not afterwards.
There isn’t a huge amount happening around there, so if you are bringing guests, they
might like to stay in central Liverpool rather than come with you to the rehearsal.
Liverpool Anglican Cathedral, Cathedral Gate, St James Road, Liverpool L1 7AZ
Remember there are two cathedrals in Liverpool, so don’t go to the wrong one! This
one is the largest in Britain and the 5th largest in the world! There will be services
going on while we are there, so please be mindful of worshippers. There is a small
café (bistro) there which closes at 4.00. Toilets, changing rooms, refreshments etc are
all available downstairs. LWC have said “Entry by the side door (via intercom)”
Places to visit
Lots to do in Liverpool: the Maritime Museum, the Museum of Liverpool, Tate Liverpool
(temporarily relocated), Beatles statue and Tour, the Albert Docks and Pier Head (Liver
Buildings), lots of good pubs and eateries.
