Inglismaal, Surrey krahvkonnas, Guildfordi linnas tegutsevasse harrastuskoori Vivace Chorus kuulub kokku 150 inimest eri
elualadelt, ihendajaks armastus muusika
ja muusikategemise vastu. Koori rikkalikust repertuaarist leiab nii klassikalisi kui
niidismuusika teoseid ning esinemispartneriteks on neil alati professionaalsed orkestrid ja solistid.
Vivace kooril on olnud énn leida endale pihendunud ja andekad juhid--koori muusikaline
juht ja peadirigent on Jeremy
Backhouse ning klaverija orelisaatja Francis Pott. Vivace koosseisus on lauljad saanud esineda nii kodulinna parimates saalides
nagu naiteks Guildfordi katedraal
ja G Live kontserdisaal kui ka mainekates Londoni esinemispaikades ning osaleda suvistel
kontsertreisidel valjaspool kodumaa piire.
Jeremy Backhouse on (ks tunnustatumaid Briti harrastuskooride dirigente. Ta alustas oma muusikuteed Cantebury katedraali
koori lauljana. 1980. aastal asus ta tédle Rahvusliku Pimedate Uhingu (RNIB) muusikatoimetajana, vastutusalaks nootide
transkriptsioon punktkirja. Enne otsustamist vabakutselise dirigendi karjaari kasuks joudis ta to6tada toimetajana plaadifirmas
EMI Classics
ja muusikakirjastuses Boosey & Hawkes Music Publishers.
Jeremy Backhouse on rahvusvaheliselt tunnustatud kammerkoori Vasari Singers esimene
ja ainus dirigent alates selle
asutamisest 1980. aastal. Peale maineka Sainsbury Aasta Koori konkursi voitu 1988 on Vasari Singers olnud pidev esineja
Londoni tuntuimates kontserdisaalides ning paljudes kirikutes
ja katedraalides ile kogu Uhendkuningriigi. Jeremy Backhouse'i
ja Vasari Singers'i salvestised kdlavad tihti raadiojaamade Classic FM, BBC Radio 3 ja BBC Radio 4 eetris ning neilt on ilmunud
(le 25 CD plaadifirmadelt EMI, Guild, Signum ja Naxos.

1995. aastal sai Jeremy Backhouse’'st Vivace Chorus’e ( mis tollal kandis nime Guildford Philharmonic Choir) muusikaline
juht. Kérvuti traditsioonilise repertuaari esitamisega on koor Jeremy Backhouse'i juhatusel osalenud mitmetes kdrget
meisterlikkust ndudvates kontsertprogrammides, mille hulka kuuluvad Howells'i ,Hymnus Paradisi®, Szymanowski ,Stabat
Mater’i” Mahleri ,Ulestdusmissimfoonia”, Prokofjevi ,Aleksander Nevski“
ja ,lvan Julma®, Mahleri “Tuhande simfoonia”
ja Verdi
,Reekviemi” (Royal Albert Hall'is koos Royal Philharmonic Orchestra’ga) ning Britteni ,Sojareekviemi” ettekanded. 2009. aasta
mais oli Vivace Chorus kohalikult heliloojalt Will Toddilt tellitud teose ,Te Deum” esmaettekandjaks. Aastal 2017 tellisid nad
20-minutilise teose oma koori klaverisaatjalt Francis Pottilt, mille kandsid ette Royal Festival Hall'is.
Alates jaanuarist 2009 on Jeremy Backhouse Salisbury Community Choir muusikaline juht. Ta on t66tanud mitmete
véljapaistvate Inglise kooridega, nende hulgas selliste kollektiividega nagu BBC Singers, Philharmonia Chorus, London Choral
Society ja Brighton Festival Chorus.

Vivace Chorus, based in Guildford, Surrey (UK) brings together 150 people of all ages and from all walks of life who love to
make great music. The choir sings a wide variety of traditional and contemporary classical repertoire and always performs
with professional orchestras and soloists. Vivace is fortunate in having an extremely talented and dedicated music team to
lead and inspire them—their Music Director, Jeremy Backhouse and accompanist, Francis Pott. As Vivace members the singers
have the thrill of singing not just in Guildford Cathedral and G Live, but also in prestigious London venues, as well as having the
opportunity to join summer tours abroad.
Jeremy Backhouse is one of Britain’s leading conductors of amateur choirs. He began his musical career in Canterbury
Cathedral where he was Senior Chorister. In 1980 he was appointed Music Editor at the RNIB, where he was responsible for
the transcription of print music into Braille. He worked for both EMI Classics and later Boosey & Hawkes Music Publishers as a
Literary Editor, before pursuing a career as a freelance conductor.
In January 1995, Jeremy was appointed Music Director of the Vivace Chorus (then the Guildford Philharmonic Choir). Alongside
the standard classical works, Jeremy has conducted the Vivace Chorus in some ambitious programmes including Howells'
Hymnus Paradisi and Szymanowski's Stabat Mater, Mahler’s ‘Resurrection’ Symphony (No. 2), Prokofiev’s Alexander Nevsky
and Ivan the Terrible, then Mahler’s ‘Symphony ofa Thousand’ (No. 8) and Verdi’s Requiem in the Royal Albert Hall with the
Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, and Britten’s War Requiem. In May 2009, Vivace Chorus commissioned and performed the
premiere of local composer Will Todd’s Te Deum and in 2017 they commissioned and premiered a 20-minute work from
Francis Pott, the choir’s accompanist, in the Royal Festival Hall.
In January 2009 Jeremy took up the post of Music Director of the Salisbury Community Choir. He has also worked with a
number of the country’s leading choirs, including the BBC Singers, the Philharmonia Chorus, the London Choral Society and the
Brighton Festival Chorus.
William Nicholson studied the organ at the RNCM and in Paris and was organ scholar at Chester Cathedral. William is based in
the Liturgy Department at Westminster Abbey and enjoys a flourishing career as a concert recitalist. He is currently organist of
St John the Divine at Kennington and he also accompanies The Lydian Singers and The Vasari Singers.
