Freiburg was first established by the Counts von Zaringhen in 1120. The town, which later
belonged to the Counts von Urach, became so rich over the years that, in 1368, it bought its
freedom and voluntarily placed itself under the protection of the Habsburgs. Freiburg briefly
belonged to France in 17" century but since 1805 has been part of Baden.
