Our Come and Sing days always tackle interesting, beautiful and
sometimes challenging works and 2014's is no exception.
Britten’s Rejoice in the Lamb is the composer's settingof Jubilate Agno
by Christopher Smart, who wrote this ecstatic poem whilst in a lunatic
asylum in the 18th century. A wonderful blend of slow, single-note
choral writing and fast-paced dance-like passages, it’s the perfect piece
to get your teeth into.
Rejoice in the Lamb is often programmed with Bernstein’s Chichester
Psalms, as both were commissioned by Walter Hussey — the Britten
when he was Vicar of St Matthew's Northampton and the Bernstein
when Dean of Chichester Cathedral. Sung in Hebrew, the piece has the
energetic rhythmic qualities we associate with Bernstein’s writing,
along with joyful themes and plenty to keep you on your toes.
Join us in January for a day that’s guaranteed to warm you up!
Requirements to join the day are a love of singing and choral
music, and £20! What you will receive in return is the hire of
the scores, tea and/or coffee, homemade soup anda
ploughman’s, the company of others who enjoy
singing and a day of music led by our Music
Director, Jeremy Backhouse.
* Last date for receipt of applications
14th January but please note, only a
limited number of places is
