The Vivace Chorus is a flourishing, friendly choir that enjoys singing traditional
choral classics alongside the challenge of newly commissioned music.
The choir has a membership of around 150 and a wide repertoire. Performances
have included the Verdi Requiem and Mahler’s 8" symphony — both sell-out
performances at the Royal Albert Hall. Our 70" birthday was celebrated with a
performance of the Brahms Requiem and a commission from Francis Pott.
The choir has undertaken seven tours in recent years, six of them abroad and is
always on the lookout for new singers. If you would like to try us, contact Jane on
membership@vivacechorus.org. We’'d love to meet you.
Jeremy Backhouse is one of Britain’s leading choral conductors and has led Vivace
since 1995. He frequently appears on Radio 3 and Classic FM conducting his
London choir, the Vasari Singers with whom he has made many recordings. In
2009 he became Music Director of the Salisbury Community Choir.

Jeremy Filsell is a virtuoso pianist and organist and on the international list of
Steinway Piano Artists and has many tours and recordings under his belt. He was
rehearsal accompanist for Vivace until in 2008 when he moved to Washington
Cathedral as organist. In 2019 he was appointed as organist at St Thomas’ Church,
New York.
Gareth Huw Davies is a London based double and electric bass player. He works
across a range of genres with a variety of artists, including Will Todd, Sir Willard
White, Graham Coxon and the BBC National Orchestra of Wales. He also works
professionally as a recording engineer and producer, as a keyboard programmer
for the RSC. He is Director of the Uppingham Summer School of Music.
Cherry Trees children’s charity is based in East Clandon. It was founded in 1980
by a group of parents and doctors, and is a lifeline for the families of more than
100 children and young people who are regularly cared for, whether it be after
school for a few hours, a weekend or even a couple of weeks stay.
The charity provides professional care in a safe, stimulating and fun environment,
where every child is valued for who they are. It enables them to spend time with
friends and enjoy new experiences and opportunities, while their families have a
much-needed break.
We are raising funds for this charity with a retiring collection tonight.
