Thank you for coming to this special evening to
help us celebrate Christmas and raise much needed
funds for Shooting Star CHASE, hospice care
for children and teenagers.
Christmas is a very special time for us. We have recently launched
our ‘Key to Care’ appeal to raise vital funds to increase our
Hospice at Home service.

Over 350 families rely on the Shooting Star CHASE Hospice at Home
service. But, we do not have the funds to offer the full range of vital
care to every family that needs our help at home.

Our current funding levels mean that if we respond to a family in a crisis,
a family somewhere else may not get their planned monthly visit they have
been desperate for. We need your help to give every child and their family
the care they desperately need and deserve at home.

The money raised tonight will help us to maintain and potentially
increase our Hospice at Home service and give every family we support,
the opportunity to get the care they need at home. We hope you have a
wonderful evening and a peaceful Christmas and New Year.

Once In Royal David's City
For he is our childhood’s pattern,

Once in royal David’s city
stood a lowly cattle shed,

day by day like us he grew,

where a mother laid her baby

he was little, weak and helpless,

in a manger for his bed:

tears and smiles like us he knew;

Mary was that mother mild,

and he feeleth for our sadness,

Jesus Christ her little child.

and shareth in our gladness.

He came down to earth from heaven

And our eyes at last shall see him,

who is God and Lord of all,

through his own redeeming love,

and his shelter was a stable,

for that child so dear and gentle

and his cradle was a stall;

is our Lord in heaven above;

with the poor the mean and the lowly

and he leads his children on

lived on earth our Saviour holy.

to the place where he is gone.

And through all his wondrous childhood

Not in that poor lowly stable,

he would honour and obey,

with the oxen standing by,

love and watch the lowly maiden,

we shall see him; but in heaven,

in whose gentle arms he lay:

set at God’s right hand on high;

Christian children all must be

where like the stars his children crowned

mild, obedient, good as he.

all in white shall wait around.

Carol
O Little Town Of Bethlehem

O little town of Bethlehem,

How silently, how silently,

how still we see thee lie!

the wondrous gift is given!

above thy deep and

so God imparts to human hearts

dreamless sleep

the blessings of his heaven.

the silent stars go by:

No ear may hear his coming;

yet in thy dark streets shineth

But in this world of sin,

the everlasting Light;

where meek souls will

the hopes and fears of

receive him, still

all the years

the dear Christ enters in.

are met in thee tonight.
O holy Child of Bethlehem,
O morning stars, together

descend to us, we pray;

proclaim the holy birth,

cast out our sin, and enter in:

and praises sing to

be born in us today.

God the King,

We hear the Christmas angels

and peace to men on earth.

the great glad tidings tell:

For Christ is born of Mary;

O come to us, abide with us,

and, gathered all above,

our Lord Emmanuel.

while mortals sleep, the
angels keep
their watch of wondering love.

God Rest You Merry, Gentlemen

God rest you merry, gentlemen,

But when to Bethlehem they came,

let nothing you dismay,

whereat this infant lay,

For Jesus Christ our Saviour

They found him in a manger,

was born upon this day,

where oxen feed on hay;

To save us all from Satan’s power

His mother Mary kneeling, unto the

when we were gone astray:

Lord did pray:

O tidings of comfort and joy.

O tidings . . .

From God our heavenly Father

Now to the Lord sing praises,

a blessed angel came,

all you within this place,

And unto certain shepherds

And with true love and brotherhood

brought tidings of the same,

each other now embrace;

How that in Bethlehem was born

This holy tide of Christmas

the Son of God by name:

all others doth deface:

O tidings . . .

O tidings . . .

The shepherds at those tidings

rejoiced much in mind,
And left their flocks a-feeding
in tempest, storm and wind,

And went to Bethlehem straightway

this blessed babe to find:
O tidings . . .

Carol
In The Bleak Midwinter

In the bleak midwinter

Angels and archangels

Frosty wind made moan

May have gathered there

Earth stood hard as iron

Cherubim and seraphim

Water like a stone

Thronged the air

Snow had fallen, snow on snow

But His mother only

Snow on snow

In her maiden bliss

In the bleak midwinter

Worshipped the Beloved

Long ago

With a kiss

Our God, heaven cannot hold Him

What can | give Him

Nor earth sustain

Poor as | am?

Heaven and earth shall flee away

If | were a shepherd

When He comes to reign

| would bring a lamb

In the bleak midwinter

If | were a wise man

A stable place sufficed

| would do my part

The Lord God Almighty

Yet what | can | give Him

Jesus Christ

Give my heart

Enough for Him, whom cherubim
Worship night and day,

A breastful of milk
And a mangerful of hay;
Enough for Him, whom angels
Fall down before,

The ox and ass and camel
Which adore.

NLP offers you an understanding as to why people react and respond to life and situations
the way they do. We have all created our own unique 'mental maps' of our world as a result of our individual filters from our life
experiences, beliefs and values. This explains why we each have a different description of the same event. Our 'mental maps' are
not actually the true reality of the event. It is from these 'mental maps' that we may incur limiting beliefs and behaviours that prevent
us from achieving the happiness, health, relationships, career and financial abundance that we desire. NLP can change your
'mental maps' and create new positive thinking and feeling circuits, which enable you to change your behaviour and
communication patterns thereby changing the results you get!

I- Reiki is a safe, non-intrusive hands-on healing treatment. It is a holistic system for balancing and harmonising all aspects of
the person; body, mind, emotions and spirit. It can also be used to encourage personal and spiritual awareness and growth. Rei is
translated as 'wisdom and knowledge of all the universe'. Ki is the life-force energy which flows through every living thing.

Tonight’s Choirs and Performers
Soloist Andrew Morris
Andrew Morris has been a soloist in Italy (Batignano Opera Festivall, France
(Aix-en-Provence and Vezere Festivals), Ireland (Wexford Festival & Dublin
Grand Opera) in Belgium and Germany (with Pavilion Opera) and at various
venues throughout the country and in Europe.

He has been a soloist with many choirs and orchestras and also runs his own

Consultancy Melisma Music with his wife Sarah-Jane who was soloist at this
concert two years ago.

Chantry Singers www.chantrysingers-guildford.org.uk
The Chantry Singers are a Guildford based chamber choir, who perform up to

four concerts a year. Formed in 1983 and now performing under the direction of
Roy Rashbrook, they specialise in presenting eclectic programmes of challenging

yet enjoyable choral music with wit and humour. They also occasionally tackle
larger scale works with professional ensembles and soloists. Membership is by
audition - and they are currently looking to recruit a couple of altos.

Guildford Harmony www.guildfordharmony.com
Guildford Harmony is a 25-strong female a cappella choir that has been

entertaining audiences in and around the Guildford area for more than 30 years.

They bring popular songs to life, singing in four-part close harmony that really
stirs the emotions. They perform at all sorts of events in the community, from

the High Street to the Electric Theatre to villages halls all over Surrey, and
regularly raise four-figure sums for local charities. They are current holders of
a category trophy from the Godalming Music Festival in the magnificent

Charterhouse chapel, and every year, take part in the annual nation-wide chorus
competition hosted by the Ladies Association of British Barbershop Singers.
Impromptu www.impromptu.org.uk

Founded by a small group of friends in 1992, Impromptu now boasts more than
20 members drawn from a wide range of ages and occupations. The choir’s
continued success is due to the friendships and strong teamwork that have
evolved from a mutual love of singing.

They are a choir of mixed abilities - some sight-readers, others who learn by ear
- and there is a great sense of camaraderie and mutual support within the group.

In addition to performing in concerts, they love the challenge of choral competitions
and won the Manchester Amateur Choral Competition in November 2010, and
were finalists in the Good Housekeeping magazine Choir of the Year competition

20

that same year. In 2008 Impromptu were finalists in the BBC Radio 3 Choir of the
Year competition, and were proud to have two of our performances from the

competition broadcast on Radio 3 during the course of the year.
The choir rehearse in Sutton on Thursday evenings, 7.30-10pm. If you're
interested in joining, please contact Sarah Lee on 020 8770 1878 - or by email

Surrey Harp Choir
The Surrey Harp Choir are thrilled to be part of this evening’s performance in
aid of Shooting Star CHASE. The group consists of young Surrey school children
who are dedicated to the harp and relish performance opportunities and

exploring the diverse repertoire for the harp.
Some members are music scholars and are members of the International
Harp Ensemble which consists of thirty members and frequently under take
European tours and concerts across the UK. The Harp Choir enjoys playing for

Charity events, festivals and recitals and simply loves playing beautiful music!

Vivace Chorus www.vivacechorus.org
Working under the inspirational leadership of Music Director, Jeremy Backhouse,
the 150 members of the Vivace Chorus sing anything from Baroque masterpieces
to modern classics. The chorus has a reputation for enormous versatility,

performing a capella or with top professional orchestras and soloists.
Each season, their concerts inspire performers and audience alike. Jeremy
Backhouse’s passion for choral works and his sheer enthusiasm for musicmaking are evident at every rehearsal and every performance. In the sublime
atmosphere of Guildford Cathedral, the intimacy of St Martin-in-the-Fields, the
majestic grandeur of the Royal Albert Hall or the Baroque splendour of Holy

Trinity, the chorus produces a wonderful sound, born from passion, great
direction and simple hard work.
The choir's most recent success was a sell-out performance at The Royal Albert
Hall where they performed Mahler’'s Symphony of a Thousand'. They plan a
concert tour to the Black Forest next summer and the next major concert in

Guildford is ‘A Night at the Opera’ in the new concert hall G Live on 17th March.
Should you be interested in joining the chorus, they rehearse in this beautiful
church on Mondays. New members are always welcome, so if you love beautiful
choral music and want to have fun singing, contact Jane at
